The Houses We Carry: Black History Month Poetry x Zine Making Workshop

Calling all Black adults 18+, based in London, especially Lewisham. 

This creative workshop with Phoenix Yemi, delivered during Black History Month, invites participants to explore the themes of shelter, memory and belonging. In this two-hour workshop, you'll explore the many houses we carry, imagining shelter not only as architecture, but as people, language, memories, landscapes, rituals, and the futures we are still imagining.

Through guided freewriting, collage and the creation of a Turkish map-fold zine, participants will transform fragments of text, image and personal archive into a handmade publication to take home.

All materials will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring photographs, drawings, letters, magazine cuttings or other paper materials that hold personal meaning.

Alongside their individual zines, participants will have the opportunity to contribute a fragment towards a collective publication, creating a shared archive of shelter, memory and Black imagination.

No previous writing experience is required just curiosity and a willingness to share stories in a supportive, inclusive space. The workshops are suitable for individuals 18+.
